لَقَدِ ٱبْتَغَوُا۟ ٱلْفِتْنَةَ مِن قَبْلُ وَقَلَّبُوا۟ لَكَ ٱلْأُمُورَ حَتَّىٰ جَآءَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَظَهَرَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّهِ وَهُمْ كَٰرِهُونَ

سُورَةُ التَّوۡبَةِ
English — Sahih International
They had already desired dissension before and had upset matters for you until the truth came and the ordinance of Allah appeared, while they were averse.
اردو — مودودی
اس سے پہلے بھی اِن لوگوں نے فتنہ انگیزی کی کوششیں کی ہیں اور تمہیں ناکام کرنے کے لیے یہ ہر طرح کی تدبیروں کا الٹ پھیر کر چکے ہیں یہاں تک کہ ان کی مرضی کے خلاف حق آ گیا اور اللہ کا کام ہو کر رہا

Sesungguhnya dari dahulupun mereka telah mencari-cari kekacauan dan mereka mengatur pelbagai macam tipu daya untuk (merusakkan)mu, hingga datanglah kebenaran (pertolongan Allah) dan menanglah agama Allah, padahal mereka tidak menyukainya.
Ibn Kathir
Allah encourages His Prophet against hypocrites,
لَقَدِ ابْتَغَوُاْ الْفِتْنَةَ مِن قَبْلُ وَقَلَّبُواْ لَكَ الأُمُورَ
(Verily, they had plotted sedition before, and had upset matters for you,) `For a long time,' Allah says, hypocrites thought and plotted against you and your Companions, as well as, failing and attempting to extinguish your religion.' This occurred soon after the Prophet migrated to Al-Madinah, when pagan Arabs joined force and the Jews and hypocrites of Al-Madinah waged war against the Messenger ﷺ. When Allah gave victory to the Prophet in Badr and raised high his word, `Abdullah bin Ubayy and his fellows said, "This (Islam) is a matter that has prevailed." They embraced Islam outwardly, and whenever Allah elevated Islam and its people in might, hypocrites increased in rage and disappointment,
حَتَّى جَآءَ الْحَقُّ وَظَهَرَ أَمْرُ اللَّهِ وَهُمْ كَـرِهُونَ
(until the truth (victory) came and the decree of Allah became manifest though they hated it.)
المُيَسَّر
لقد ابتغى المنافقون فتنة المؤمنين عن دينهم وصدهم عن سبيل الله من قبل غزوة (تبوك)، وكشف أمرهم، وصرَّفوا لك -أيها النبي- الأمور في إبطال ما جئت به، كما فعلوا يوم (أحد) ويوم (الخندق)، ودبَّروا لك الكيد حتى جاء النصر من عند الله، وأعز جنده ونصر دينه، وهم كارهون له.
